Red moon lullaby

©Sobhana Jaya-Madhavan

lean on me…
ever so slowly, close your eyes…
let me hear your soul sing…
as the red moon soars high…

like my rainbow-colored dreams…
my never-ending anxieties…
don’t understand the distance…
between my hopes and realities…
can I lean on you?
and close my tired eyes?
my dreams…
on the curve of your lashes, can they lie?
tell me why…
we love blossoms and hills….
choose to live in concrete jungles…
watching the skyline and our dreams wilt…
our dreams don’t see the light of day…
cross our arms when the other craves to be embraced…
build walls and sing freedom songs…
love, only to be betrayed…
lean on me…I will lean on you….
let’s open our tear filled eyes….
hold our life-giving breath together…
as the red moon soars high…

can I lean on you?
and close my tired eyes?
my dreams…
on the curve of your lashes, can they lie?
